ZARA KIDS

Early on in 2022 I had the pleasure to design a jersey capsule for ZARA KIDS. This capsule focuses on girls between 6-14 years old. I really enjoyed working on these designs. Designing for children gave a sense of freedom to explore a new territory.

My assignment was to create two distinct worlds yet to keep my own design identity as well as the ZARA costumer in mind. I really love to build a character when it comes to designing capsules. In this case I imagined two different girls with different aesthetics.

They are both in school, close to their teenage years. Both very creative, fashion lovers with two distinct styles and points of views.

The first girl, a real extrovert. Always the center of attention. It's early autumn and she's happy to be back at school after a pandemic. She is also a rebel ;) She is a skater girl with her own skater-gang of boys and girls who love to dress cool and make a real statement: at school, in the gym, whilst skateboarding. Her clothes could interpret as unisex in some cases. I wanted to keep comfort in mind and add a joyful feel to each piece. The graphics tie the story together: the scribbles in her notebook, the emojis, the graffiti inspired drawings create all-over prints, small front prints and placement prints.

The second girl, who is more of an introvert, is really into arts. She has a romantic soul and enjoys delicate things in life like painting, gardening, and discovering nature. She really loves living in her world of imagination. She in fact even designs some of her own clothes. She likes to upgrade her wardrobe with hand-made details, fabrics and upcycle old items. Her hobby and passion is the discovery of all those beautiful hidden details in clothes, in nature, in life...
In this capsule I designed pieces that show appreciation for crafts. The silhouettes have a romantic feel to them. The prints blend botanicals and autumn florals together. The colour palette is rustic and bohemian.

This is the story of the two girls. These girls are both a part of my childhood, maybe even a part of me as a gown-up. I often feel that my own personal style is a mix of laid-back styling with feminine items.
